MORNING SESSIONS
Main Stage

A framing for the day ahead: if imagination shapes culture, systems, and possibility itself, how do we begin imagining differently — together?
10.40 – 11 am
-
Through Little Lions Africa, Julian Johnson is rethinking what education can look like when creativity, dignity, and local possibility are placed at the center. A conversation about imagination not as luxury, but as infrastructure for equity and transformation.
11 – 11.35 am
-
Interview by Dan Buettner
For architect Sumayya Vally, imagination is not invention alone, but an act of recovery. Through memory, overlooked histories, and marginalized ways of knowing, she asks whose stories are allowed to shape our cities, institutions, and collective future. Rooted in post-apartheid Johannesburg, her work reimagines architecture as a space for dignity, belonging, and cultural repair.
11.35 – 11.45 pm
-
What happens when imagination is no longer an exclusively human act? Beyond productivity or automation, these systems become mirrors, collaborators, and new instruments for thought — capable of generating unexpected associations, synthetic memories, and new aesthetic possibilities.
11.45 – 12.25 pm
-
Black holes. Dark matter. Hidden dimensions. Astrophysicist Janna Levin takes us to the outer edge of human understanding, where imagination becomes essential for navigating realities we cannot directly perceive. A reminder that the unseen still shapes the world we live in.
12.25 – 1.10 pm
-
Imagination is one of the most wonderful dimensions of human consciousness. Why did it evolve and what does it do for us? Drawing on his latest book, A World Appears, Pollan takes us into the laboratories of our own minds, showing us how we might make better use of the gift of consciousness to more meaningfully connect with the world and our deepest selves.

After last year’s unforgettable reflection on courage, Satish Kumar returns to Harvest in his 90th year to close this chapter with a meditation on imagination. For Satish, imagination is not escape, but a sacred force expressed through love, simplicity, compassion, and our relationship to the living world.
In this intimate closing gathering, one of the great spiritual teachers of our time invites us into a deeper inquiry: how do we imagine a more beautiful world through the way we live, care, and relate to one another? A final blessing for the road ahead.
5.40 - 6.05 pm
